WYLD. A concept for a wearable for outdoor sport use.

W Y L D is a concept for secure and joyful outdoor sports. It is an interactive system consisting of a haptic belt and a smartphone application. Orientation is an important requirement to stay secure when doing activities outside. Interactive maps offer a lot of functionalities, but are mostly screenbased. This is not always useful for outdoor activities. The belt sends tactile indications, mainly for navigation. The system can also warn in the case of an approaching storm or advise the user to take a break. Via the smartphone application the user can plan and review individual tours and gets additional information when being outdoors. The design and research process was very hands-on. Madeleine built lots of prototypes and did several user tests to find the best fitting product and to test different kinds of haptic signals. The work is still in progress.
